Paint Shop Pro Tutorial
PSP 7-9: Creating Text as Shapes - Creating an image
Our logo at the top of this page can be created by a few simple steps in Paint Shop Pro (PSP) 7, 8 or 9. These steps are described below.
This tutorial is designed with specific image size, text, colours and fonts. These may, of course, all be varied. I will point out some of the variations that may detract from the final image. Instructions for you to follow are shown as bullet points.
This tutorial assumes that you know how to:
- select a tool from the Tools palette
- select a colour / gradient / pattern from the Materials
palette
- identify Stroke and Fill for
Preset Shapes and Text
- reveal or find the Layer palette
- locate the Tool Options palette
Start with a blank, square transparent image that will fit the text comfortably, with room for a hollow rectangle and some background at the edge of the image. Bear in mind when choosing the image size that PSP's spherical distortion changes the useable size of the image to about 0.6 (6/10s) the original width, but its height remains the same.
- Select New from the File menu ( File > New ).
- Enter the following Image dimensions into the New Image dialog box.:
- Width:300
- Height:300
- Resolution:72 pixels/inch for screen; at least 200 pixels/inch for print
- Enter the following Image characteristics into the New Image dialog box :
- Raster Background selected
- Color depth: 16 Million Colors (24 bit)
- Color: Transparent checked
- Click OK
A new, blank image will be created.
