PSP 7-9: Creating Text as Shapes - Applying an Inner Bevel

To apply effects and filters in PSP, use options from the Effects menu. An inner bevel is a 3D effect.

  • Click Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel. The Inner Bevel dialog box appears.
  • Click OK to the Auto Actions dialog if it appears. This promotes the selection to a full layer.

PSP's Inner Bevel dialog

  • Adjust Bevel settings on this dialog box to:
    • Bevel: 1
    • Width:8 (or so)
  • Adjust Image settings on this dialog box to:
    • Smoothness: 0
    • Depth:2
    • Ambience: 0
    • Shininess: 0
  • Adjust Light settings on this dialog box to:
    • Color: White
    • Angle: 315
    • Intensity: 50
    • Elevation: 30.

You can change some of these settings to vary the effect. The settings above are the ones I used to create my image.

  • Click OK to close the dialog box and apply the inner bevel to text and rectangle.
  • If the selection remains on the image, remove it (Selections > Select None)
  • If there are 3 layers, remove the Vector layer. To do this:
    • In the Layers palette, right- click on Vector 1
    • Select Delete from the shortcut menu that appears.
